Time Tracking
Time tracking is the lifeblood of a firm's billing. ProGuard Legal supports two ways to log time: a built-in timer and manual entry.
The timer
The timer runs in the background while you work.
- Click Start timer (from anywhere).
- Pick the matter you're working on.
- Add a short description.
- Work.
- Stop the timer — a time entry is created automatically.
Only one timer can be active at a time. If you start a new one, the previous is stopped.
Manual time entry
For time you didn't track live:
- Open the matter → Time entries tab → New
- Enter date, hours, description
- Mark as billable or non-billable
- Save
You can also go directly to Billing → Time Entries to see and create entries across all matters.
Billable vs non-billable
Every entry is flagged billable or non-billable. Only billable entries appear as candidates when drafting an invoice, but both count toward your utilization.
Editing and deleting
You can edit or delete your own time entries as long as they haven't been added to an invoice. Once an entry is on an invoice in PARTNER_REVIEW or later, it's locked.
Expenses
Expenses (disbursements) are logged the same way, under the matter's Expenses tab. Each expense has:
- An amount and currency
- A category (from
Billing → Expense Categories) - A flag for reimbursable (charge back to the client)
- Optional description and date
Reports
- Billable hours — summary of billable vs non-billable across the firm
- Lawyer utilization
- Attorney productivity
- Budget vs actual — per matter
