HR Manager / HR Staff

Typical role assignments:

  • HR Worker — staff, hr_worker
  • HR Supervisor — staff, hr_supervisor
  • HR Manager — staff, hr_manager

HR is a large and self-contained part of ProGuard Legal. It covers people records, leave, public holidays, excuse duties, appraisals and performance management. The HR role tier determines what you can do:

You are…You can…
hr_workerRead employee, leave and appraisal records; request your own leave
hr_supervisorCreate and update employees, leave, appraisals and next-of-kin
hr_managerFull control including delete

Employees

Under HR → Employees you manage the firm's people:

  • Create a new employee (triggers an invite so they can log in)
  • Edit their profile, department, position, joining date
  • Resend invite if the original link expired
  • Maintain next of kin records for emergency contacts

Leave management

Leave is the busiest part of HR day-to-day.

The leave workflow

  1. An employee submits a leave request under HR → My Leaves → New.
  2. The request lands in HR → Leave for HR/supervisor review.
  3. HR or the manager approves or rejects the request.
  4. If approved, the employee's leave balance is updated and they show up under HR → On Leave for the period.

Leave configuration

Under HR you can set up:

  • Leave policies — the rules for each leave type (annual, sick, maternity, paternity, compassionate, unpaid)
  • Leave allocations — how much each employee gets per year
  • Leave balances — real-time view of what each employee has left
  • Public holidays — firm-observed holidays
  • Free days — personal free days per employee
  • Excuse duties — non-leave absences requiring approval

Appraisals

ProGuard Legal has a full appraisal workflow:

Running an appraisal

  1. HR creates an appraisal from HR → Appraisals → New, picking the employee, template, and review period.
  2. The employee completes their self-assessment (HR → My Appraisals → [appraisal] → Self-assessment).
  3. The reviewer (usually a manager) completes their review (HR → Appraisals → [appraisal] → Review).
  4. HR marks the appraisal complete.

Appraisal configuration

Before running appraisals, set up:

  • Appraisal templates — reusable structures for different roles
  • Template sections and questions — what you're assessing
  • Competence categories and competences — the skills framework
  • Performance targets — goals to measure against
  • Review periods — e.g. Q1 2026, H1 2026

Find all of these under HR → Appraisal Templates, Competence Categories, Competences, Performance Targets, Review Periods.
