Managing Partner
Typical role assignment:
staff,managing_partner,general_manager
As Managing Partner you have visibility across the entire firm. general_manager inherits all *_manager roles, which means you can read, create, update and delete records across Matters, CRM and HR without needing those roles individually.
Your dashboard
When you log in, the Dashboard gives you a firm-wide snapshot: active matters, unbilled time, outstanding invoices, staff on leave, and recent activity. Use this as your daily starting point.
What you'll typically do here
Monitor the firm
- Reports — the reports module is where you spend most of your analytical time:
- Financial summary — month-on-month revenue
- Matter profitability — which matters are making money
- Lawyer utilization and attorney productivity — who is billing, how much
- Collections & AR aging — who owes you
- Realization rate — billed vs. collected
- Practice area profitability — where the firm makes money
- Trust reconciliation — confirm trust balances
- Leave utilization — HR snapshot
Oversee matters
- Matters — you can view, create, edit or close any matter in the firm.
- Statute alerts — matters approaching statute of limitations surface as alerts so nothing slips.
- Conflict checking — run a conflict check before accepting any new matter.
Approve invoices
Any invoice can be routed to you for review. Open Billing, filter by PARTNER_REVIEW, and approve or reject. See Billing lifecycle.
Firm governance
- HR — approve leave requests and appraisals, review headcount
- Audit logs — under
Admin → Audit logs, review sensitive actions (user changes, permission changes) - Trust accounts — oversee trust balances and transfers
What you probably shouldn't be doing day-to-day
- Inviting users and configuring roles (delegate to a firm administrator)
- Setting up departments, positions, practice areas (delegate to administrator)
- Logging individual time entries (unless you bill directly)
